Why the client needed our help

Our client, a gas engineer working on overseas projects, was invited to make a disclosure under the Worldwide Disclosure Facility (WDF) as the Spanish authorities had exchanged information HMRC under the Common Reporting Standards (CRS), which showed he been diverting his income into a Spanish bank account, and not declaring it in the UK.

How we helped

We considered his situation and advised him to make a disclosure under Code of Practice 9 as a disclosure using the WDF would not give him an immunity against prosecution. We were successful in getting him a contracted settlement under COP9, and assisted him in making a full disclosure to HMRC.

The outcome

A settlement was agreed with HMRC following the disclosure and penalties were mitigated to the clients satisfaction.

Andy Lynch at FWJ was literally a life saver for me. I ran in to some tax issues with HMRC and I suffer from mental health issues as well so I was a complex case. Andy took his time to professionally and accurately layout my case and assist me with finding a resolution. I researched a lot of tax advisers before making my decision and I am glad I did and relieved that I chose Andy and FWJ.
