The restructuring team at Francis Wilks & Jones works closely with our professional restructuring colleagues, including insolvency practitioners, alternative financiers and accounting firms in achieving a turnaround or rescue of companies facing financial difficulties.
We can help in a range of different situations, whether it involves
- a reorganisation of the company’s debts;
- the sale of certain assets; or
- hiving off unprofitable parts of the company or parts of a group.
We advise the professionals appointed and tasked with keeping the company going.
We serve on the panel of a number of asset based lenders who know us well and trust us which can ease dialogue when seeking the support of the key creditors of the company to try and avoid them commencing formal insolvency proceedings and spoiling any progress made with the other creditors.
Whether our insolvency practitioner clients are appointed as part of a standalone restructuring process or whether in conjunction with a formal insolvency process such as an administration or company voluntary arrangement, we can assist in every legal aspect of the process.
Help for directors and business owners
As a practice, FWJ regularly receives enquiries from company directors and business owners facing financial distress but who are reluctant to see their businesses enter into formal insolvency proceedings for a variety of reasons, such as
- reputational damage;
- termination of key contracts; or
- confidence that their businesses can be turned around with some professional help.
We are fortunate in being well placed to refer work out to our trusted professional partners to ensure the right team is put in place for the matter at hand, irrespective of business size, sector and geographical location.

Once in a while you get an assignment where everyone makes life impossibly difficult. Mine was an administration which was intertwined in an irreconcilable family dispute. Every party had an entrenched self-interested position, all believed that I was aligned with another and there was a whole host of complex property issues to boot.
For over eighteen months I was in daily contact with FWJ through litigation, possession proceedings, injunctions, negotiations, trespassers and the aforementioned property issues.
The strategic thinking displayed by FWJ meant that I was always confident that the difficulties would be overcome. Of course they were and when I next need solicitors to act for me in such challenging and contentious circumstances, FWJ will get my call.
